Avoiding dreaded chores

Today we were supposed to clean the basement *again*. I hate cleaning the basement. We do it about 4 times a year, and each time we throw away more junk than I imagined we could possibly have. I think our junk is reproducing down there like little bunnies.

So instead of doing that we decided to take the kids to Home Depot for a Kids Workshop. They do this once a month and the project this month was a pinewood derby car for the boys and a heart shaped shelf for the girls - though I imagine either gender could choose either project if they wanted to.

Home Depot provides the kit -shrink wrapped, containing all parts - and an apron for each kid if they don't already have one. They set up tables with hammers and glue and turn the kids loose.

After they finished we headed to the paint department to pick out swatches for Ella's room. She'd like to paint it purple which is totally ok with us. Unfortunately for Ella I hate to paint even more than I hate cleaning the basement. She may need to call in reinforcements for that project.

Ta Da!

After that we headed to Chick Fil A for a breakfast snack and to kill some time because our next destination didn't open until 11.  The Chick Fil A we went to was celebrating its 2 year anniversary today so they were having a little birthday party with prize drawings.

We scored 2 t-shirts, 2 pens and a lanyard. Shane thought having the lanyard meant he worked there - Bill wears his work ID on one - so he kept telling the guy at the register he was ready to go to the kitchen and cook. It was very cute.

After the kids ate and zoomed around the germ pit playroom, we loaded them up and headed to scenic Shepherdstown...

I went to Lowes and Home Depot with hubby to buy a new shower. We didn't get one as they had the aisle blocked off and he doesn't do the waiting game. BUT, it got me out of the house for 2 hours without the boys.

Now to start those pesky taxes.. I'll probably feel like cleaning once I get going on those.
