There's a new kid in town

In the last couple of months we've had several occasions when we were out with Shane and folks thought he was a girl. I'm sure if we lived someplace a little more urbane, hip, or chic people wouldn't even look twice at my long haired tattooed hippy freak adorable little cherub. But we live in the country near a little town where boys look like boys and girls can kick your butt or blast you into next week with their Mossberg 500 Persuader. (I totally had to look up rifles for women because I don't know squat about guns.)

Being exhausted and clueless the rebel that I am, I usually just laugh it off and make a note that if all anyone is going to notice about us is Shane's hair, I should at least comb it more than once a week. But the comments started to get to Bill. How dare anyone suspect his boy is in drag a girl!
The epitome* of manliness at age 4...
*yes, that's how it's spelled. I found it on the internet so you know it's right

...until his sister gets a hold of him

after a recent visit to Ella's hair salon and spa

Long story short, Bill asked me to pretty please cut his hair today. sniff, sniff. If you've read my blog for any length of time then you know Shane is probably going to rule a small country before he's 12 isn't exactly a patient, quiet child who is content to sit still for long periods of time.

After about an hour of me bobbing and weaving around his head and reminding him that a cupcake was the post-haircut reward, we have a new kid in our house...

cuteness

The cupcake lasted all of 20 seconds

I have to admit I prefer it long;  I think it suits his personality better than short hair. He doesn't seem to mind having it short, and daddy is happy so all is well in the land...well, until daddy sees the pictures of Shane in Ella's dress up, but until then all is just great.

this is the best post ever...very cute!

I cried when we cut my son's hair when he started preschool. He had all these long curls, like a surfer dude.
