TOS Review- Ideal Curriculum

New from Ideal Curriculum are monthly curriculum kits for preschoolers. These are nine kits containing lesson plans, teacher's guide, books, music and activities around a particular theme.  Your child will learn letters and their sounds,  sight words, math skills and listening skills.  The concepts  taught each month are progressive so it's important to complete the kits in sequence.

We received the kit for the first month, Transportation, as a download.  They set up the e-files nicely in that things that need to be printed are in a folder labled "Month 1 print files;" the stuff you're going to read is in a folder labled "Month 1 read files" and so on. The 54 page Teacher's Manual gives detailed lesson plans so after you print everything, there's little planning required.

The e-books have very nice, colorful pictures, and the 18 page student workbook has activities like line and letter tracing, writing practice, and coloring sheets.

The kit contains just about everything you'd need to teach your preschooler.  My biggest hesitation is the cost. For the money you spend on the curriculum, you could start a really nice library of children's books. I'm also not especially fond of e-books for preschoolers; Shane likes to hold the books and turn the pages. We also like to take books with us in the car or to read in bed (and we won't be buying the kids their own laptops anytime soon).

A veteran homeschooler probably would not benefit from this product as much as a mom completely new to homeschooling. I can also see it being beneficial to a daycare center or co-op class.

You can buy a print copy of each kit individually for $55 each or the downloadable version for $30. You enjoy a discount if you purchase multiple units at once. This table can help you decide if the print or download version would best suit you.

From May 1-May 31st Ideal Curriculum is offering a 10% discount on your first order of any of their products when you use the code: welovekids
