I love books. I love to read. Growing up I drove my parents crazy by reading *everything*. Road signs, billboards, cereal boxes, you name it, I read it. Out loud. It's a wonder they didn't tape my mouth shut.
As a crazy reader and a homeschool mom, my hope is that my kids will all love to read, too. Jake is a voracious reader, and for that I am very grateful. My younger three...it's hard to tell. They like to look at books and imagine stories based on the illustrations, but there's no real passion for reading - yet.
Earlier this year most members of the TOS Crew had the privilege of reviewing a spelling program called All About Spelling . (You can read my review here.)
Marie Rippel, the exceedingly generous author of the curriculum, recently sent many of us her newly published Beehive Reader 1 which compliments All About Spelling Level 1.
This is a very 'pretty' book. It has a nice, sturdy hardcover with tight binding that will withstand many little hands. The pages are sturdy but not stiff, and it's printed on non-glare paper which is easy on the eyes.
The illustrations are simple and sweet. I like that they illustrate the story but not in a way that your child can guess the text on the page. Hank is quite skilled at making up stories by looking at the illustrations. Little stinker!
Another feature I should point out is that each line is subtly underlined. Not in a glaring way that distracts. Just enough for students who need that extra help staying on track.
We have loved this little reader, and we think you will, too. Head over to All About Spelling and check it out!
The Beehive Reader 1 is available for $19.95.
