AT Hike Reno Monument

Today was another completely gorgeous Maryland day so we joined a friend and her son on another AT hike. This time we drove to the Reno Monument and headed south to the Rocky Run shelter.

We piled out of the truck and started getting our stuff together when we realized Shane did not have a coat....and he was wearing a short sleeve t-shirt. Thankfully he was wearing shoes so we weren't a complete disaster. He refused to wear my fleece shirt but we managed to get my down vest on him so off we went.

Waiting for Bill and Shane at the side trail to the shelter

Moseying along through the woods looking for bears and sasquatches

Inside the new Rocky Run Shelter. It was palatial and very nice. We may have to camp there just 'cause

Then we headed down to the old shelter where there's a small creek. Little kids and water can't exist in close proximity without some kind of interaction (that sounds scientificky doesn't it??).

They were trying to dam the creek and make a lake so they could fish. Go big or go home!

The old shelter is in the background. Much smaller than the new one, but still open for camping

Bill had Shane-duty. His primary responsibility to keep Shane from puddle-jumping, one of his most favorite things to do.

Bear hunting

This part of the trail is just mildly rocky so it's a pretty easy hike. We still only went about 2 1/2 miles round trip, but we all had a great time. After that we headed to the creamery so the kids could munch some ice cream.

I love winter hiking and can't wait to get the kids out on the trails more this winter.
