Now What?

So I'm supposed to hang out for a week or so to let my legs recover. It's day 5 and I'm getting bored. My mornings used to be filled with such purpose. Hurry out of bed, work out and/or run and begin the insanity of my day.

Now it doesn't matter if I roll out of bed at 5 am or 7 am. The excitement of homeschool and errands will be there regardless. Not that they aren't when I am training, but if I'm not showered and ready for the day by 7ish, it's pretty much a circus for the rest of the day. True confessions - I'm in jammies as I type this, and Ella and Hank are in the schoolroom body slamming each other as they do their Latin warm up drills.

To avoid my real responsibilities kill time I've started looking at training plans for my next half. Not that I know when that will be, because I don't. It's kind of like window shopping. Lots of fun and no commitment.

I used Hal Higdon's Novice Half program for my first two, but I've found 15 weeks is a long time for me mentally - can you say 'attention span of a gnat'?

I also would like to run farther than 10 miles in my training so I'm leaning towards Ryan Hall's Half training plan - the short version. I'll probably add an extra week to it so that I could have an additional week off after the final long run (10 miles).

I'd like to also pick another race, even if it's months away, so I have a goal to work towards. The inaugural Frederick 10 Miler is about a month away and I'm tossing that one around in my mind. Otherwise I'll wait until late January for the Lewis Memorial 10 Miler (which is also insanely hilly).

Though I have to admit that it's kind of nice to wake up and not have a run requirement hanging over my head. I feel like I'm in limbo - want to run, probably shouldn't, don't have to run, enjoying the break, but not really.

I think tomorrow I'll do a little strength training just because.
