TOS Review Lesson Planet

Lesson Planet is a search engine for teachers and parents with over 150,000 on-line lesson plans. It was created by a team of experienced educators who are passionate about teaching.

I found the site to be user friendly and easy to navigate. You can search by key word, grade level, subject or rating (1-5 stars). The coolest feature of this site is the curriculum calendar which gives important dates in history and links to related lesson plans. They also provide the curriculum standards for each state which can be helpful if you're concerned about educational gaps or are going to enroll your homeschooled child in a public school.

I'm currently teaching history for our 6th-8th graders in our co-op, and we're covering the countries of the middle and the most recent presidents. Most of the lesson plans and worksheets I found were more busy work than learning - I'm not sure what doing a wordsearch of presidents' last names is supposed to teach you about their respective administrations, but word searches were a common return for the different presidents I searched.

Several of the worksheets that I found for the Middle East appeared to be linked to specific textbooks so they weren't useful to me at all because they contained fill in the blank questions for certain pages within the book. Though I did find a couple of lesson plans that I'll try to incorporate into our classtime.

Lesson Planet offers a full access free 10 day trial so you can try before you buy.  If you decide you'd like to purchase a membership, it's $39.95 per year.
