TOS Review Math Galaxy

It has definitely been a great year for us to try out all sorts of math practice programs.  The latest program to come to us courtesy of the TOS Crew is from Math Galaxy.  The very generous vendor let us choose which of their products we'd like to review, and I chose Whole Numbers Fun.

Ella and Hank have really enjoyed this program. Honestly, I was a little surprised they love it as much as they do. There is no audio and the graphics are a little 80's looking...reminded me of Atari Space Invaders. But they asked to play it almost every day.

Though the simplicity of it is probably what appealed to them. The menu is straightforward and easy to navigate, and the graphics are simple so the screen is uncluttered.

I had them focus on single and double digit addition and subtraction.  You can choose to have just the final answer revealed or you can choose to have the steps of the problem detailed; I had the kids select to see the answers done step by step.

The one thing Hank enjoyed most was earning robots by answering math problems correctly. After earning robots, he could play the maze game which he loved so he was very motivated to do his regular math so that he could then do 'computer math'.

You can play other games like answering riddles or Bridge the Swamp without earning robots though. Bridge the swamp was something the two of them could do together which gave me a uninterrupted time with Shane.

Math Galaxy has topics ranging from simple addition to Algebra and they offer e-book worksheet generators for a variety of topics. We've had a lot of fun with this product, but more importantly I've been pleased to see Ella and Hank gain faster recall of their math facts. If you have a struggling math student, you should check out Math Galaxy.

System Requirements: Windows 98 or later or Mac OS X. (Both are on the same CD-ROM disk, so no need to specify which.)

You can purchase Whole Numbers Fun for only $29.95 and shipping is free. Math Galaxy offers a 30 day money back guarantee so head over to their website and check them out.

Be sure to read reviews written by other TOS Crew members.

* I received this product for free so that I may use it and offer my opinion of it. No other compensation was received.
