New babies!

A few days ago we had our first chicken casualty. One of our sweet little pullets was killed by a racoon. To help me through the grieving process, Bill let me get more babies. Silly? Yes, but the kids are happy about it.

We get our chicks from the local feed store. Last year they let me buy just 2 or 3 at a time, but this year they have a new policy and you have to buy at least 5 chicks which is ok with me. Bill groaned just little so I think it'll be ok. :)

They're a mix between Red Sex-Link and I think a Barred Rock. The RSL/Rhode Island Red mix we got last year have been excellent layers so I'm sure I'll be pleased with these little cuties, too.
