Kris Kringle Parade

The kids and I went with Mr and Mrs P to the Kris Kringle parade in downtown Frederick last Friday. It was a fun, hometown parade with local girl scouts dressed as snowflakes and school groups singing Christmas carols and handing out candy canes.

We were standing near the beginning of the route and got front row seats. The kids - even Hank- loved it.

Thanks to Mr P's excellent navigation, we also enjoyed front row parking, right across the street from Santa, who was killing time by directing traffic.

Hank wanted no part of an upclose encounter with the guy in red, but here are the braver siblings. I wish I had gotten better pictures of Shane. He is wearing so many layers...like the kid in A Christmas Story. If Shane had fallen, there is no way he could have gotten up. It was a riot watching him try to ootz his way out of the stroller. What a mean mommy. :)

We went to a fun coffee shop for cocoa afterwards. The name of it is Mudpuddles and Mrs P used to go there for lunch when she worked in downtown Frederick. There isn't even a sign outside so you definitely have to know it's there.
The owner rocked. She was handing me containers to read the ingredients and making suggestions. She whipped up an excellent fruit smoothie for Shane. I was so grateful because I didn't have a chance to go to the market to buy some cocoa mix for him (if a corn, gluten dairy free cocoa mix even exists!).
They had these fun claw foot tubs that were painted in whimsical colors and designs. One side was cut out and they had cushions in them making them a perfect seat for little kids. It was open mike night for singing, poetry, etc. They were completely ok with the kids making noise and even singing along. It was cool. The lead guy invited the kids up to do a number and I was surprised that Ella and Shane passed on their opportunity for fame.

And then my battery died and I didn't have my spare. :(
