Glen Echo
Glen Echo was an amusement park in MD and is now a National Park. Ranger Sam is, by far, the BEST ranger we've had all year. Without a doubt he loves Glen Echo and he loves his job. What a difference it made on our tour. The kids completely enjoyed learning about the rich and varied history of this park and they loved the carousel.

Clara Barton's House
We visited Clara Barton's house in Glen Echo. The kids got to hear more about this very determined and compassionate young woman.
They have an online junior ranger program where the kids can pretend to be a Red Cross volunteer for a day and if you mail your completion certificate, or bring it with you when you visit, they give the kids a junior ranger certificate and badge.

Harpers Ferry Wetlands Field Trip
The Rangers at Harpers Ferry invited us to take part in their pilot program about Wetlands. It's nearby, very fun outdoor stuff and best of all- Free!
The rangers explained the importance of the wetlands to Native Americans and early settlers. and they talked a bit about different creatures you'll find in a wetland area.
First, the kids took different materials from the wetland area and tested them in pans of water to see what would float. Easy enough.
Then they got to gather materials and make boats. Very cool. My sweetie girl made a flower boat. The ranger did help her with the tying part. I had Shane with me so I didn't get to really help Hank or Ella with their creations.
Then they scooped up some water and looked at it under magnifying glasses and microscopes to see what lived in the water. Then they had to look it up in a field guide, draw their own illustration and write a sentence or two about what they saw.

Spelling Bee Champeeen of the Woorrrrllld!
We went to Seneca Schoolhouse which is a one room schoolhouse about an hour south of here.
My 5 year old - who cannot read, writes her name backwards, confuses p, b, and d continually - WON the spelling bee. The kids were given age/grade-appropriate words and my girlie rocked the house!

Baking soda paste
A lady at the library suggested a baking soda paste to remove the gallons of diaper cream he rubbed into his hair twice in 12 hours.
It didn't work, but he did look cute. No doubt God knew this kid was going to need an extra dose of cuteness (and then he got two extra doses). Oh, I love to squish and kiss this little guy.

Picture problems
Blogger isn't uploading my pictures. :(
We've had lots going on but who wants to read a bunch of silly words when you can look at pictures of cute kids? Hopefully I'll figure out what I'm doing wrong or blogger will fix their problem.

I do NOT heart snakes
4th one I spotted in about a week; thankfully the other 3 were farther (further??) from the house.
This time of year challenges me...pollen, snakes coming out of hibernation, kids who need to run after being cooped up all winter
