Last week all 4 kids had the 24 hour barf-your-guts-out virus and not all at the same time.
We were good for a few days and now: pink eye, sinus infection, and ear infection. Thankfully, only 2 of them are stricken this time. I seem to have some sort of sinus thing happening too. Very thankfully, it isn't strep which is what it seemed to be when they first got sick.
I'm going to put a big tent over the house and douse it with bleach. That should keep us healthy...for a couple of days anyway.
I think we'll set up some kind of direct pay to our pediatrician so I can skip the checking in/waiting room part. They could install a drive up window for us... I'll just pull up to the window, show them the sick kid, get our prescription and drive off. I think it could work. ;)

Please pray for Trevor
I have the privilege of helping teaching the pre-K class at our homeschool co-op each Friday morning.
One of my little guys had routine surgery this morning to remove what was believed to be a cyst on his bladder. The doctors discovered he has a form of cancer called rhabdomyosarcoma
They'll be doing more tests tomorrow to determine which type of rhabdomyosarcoma he has and develop a treatment plan.
Please pray for him, for his parents and sister, and for the doctors who will be treating him. He really is a fun little kid with a great sense of humor.

The plague
The plague has once again descended upon our home. Thankfully this time it's only vomiting... it's hard to imagine being glad for *only* vomiting, but with 4 sick kids adding even one more element changes things dramatically!
I also have to say that I am SO GRATEFUL for my washer and dryer!
Hopefully they'll all be healthy for Easter. DeeDee creates a little carnival of games for the kids each Easter and I will have some sad munchkins on my hands if they have to miss that.
Hank was so cute last night. His little head was in the trashcan and he's telling me between barfs to call DeeDee. "She'll know what to do mom. She has medicine that will make me better. Go give her a call and I'll wait here." Such a sweetie...

More weird news
Hey I remembered! How amazing is that? If you knew just how bad my memory is, you'd say that's pretty stinkin' amazing. lol!
So I found this little gem...
In early January, when a national deep freeze extended even to the Florida Keys, iguanas fell into their natural hibernation-like torpor, and some compassionate Floridians, unaccustomed to seeing iguanas that appeared nearly dead, took them indoors to warm them up, which is a mistake. The owner of the veterinary clinic in Marathon said one "sweet lady" called him about the five-footer she had dragged inside. "When it woke up," said the vet, "she couldn't understand why it seemed to be coming after her." "When they warm up, they go back to being a wild animal."

Honestly, it would *never* occur to me to drag a 5 foot reptile into my house! We'll trust she survived and has learned a valuable lesson.

O'Malley the Alley Cat

We got The Aristocrats from Netflix a few days ago and we've watched it a couple of times already. It's one of my favorite kid movies. I really love saying O'Malley the Alley Cat. It just sounds cool and it's fun to say. I also love the song Everybody Wants to Be A Cat! The kids run around singing that line over and over.Their favorite part of the movie though is the big rescue in the barn when the bad guy is trying to mail the cats to Timbuktu. The kids were playing in some boxes pretending to mail each other to Timbuktu. Very cute!

Maybe I should start doing Weird News Wednesday. I know today is Tuesday but I can't rely on my terrible memory to post this tomorrow...

Man wears ear hair with pride

Keywords: hairy ears, India -- I *love* this! Hairy Ears is now a keyword in some poor person's database!
A man from India has set a world record for exceptionally long ear hair. Radhakant Bajpai, a grocer from northern Kanpur, first made it into the Guinness Book of World Records in 2003.
The previous holder was BD Tyagi of the central Indian city of Bhopal, whose ear tufts measured 10.2cm.
Mr Bajpai's came in at 13.2cm when he first beat Mr Tyagi - but have since grown to almost
25cm.
He is however, dismayed at the lack of government appreciation of the feat.
"The government is not providing any assistance and society too is apathetic. People consider sporting long hair on ears to be an act of foolishness. Had the government commended the feat, society would also have been quick to accord recognition," Mr Bajpai said.
The grocer uses a special shampoo to maintain his hair and has stopped wearing rings and necklaces, so as not to damage it. -- where does one find this special shampoo??

Show Hope
Last night Bill and I had the extraordinary privilege to volunteer at a Steven Curtis Chapman concert. Nope they didn't need anyone to hang lights or speakers (Bill) or boss people around (me). We represented our adoption agency in conjunction with Shaohannah's Hope and collected donations for their Change for Orphans program.
It was amazing, encouraging, and humbling to see little kids who had been saving change for weeks walk up and very excitedly drop it into my bucket. Folks gave everything from $100 bills to pennies and I was honored to be a part of it.
A woman walked up to me and shared that she had been given a ticket so she was donating the money she would have spent to buy her seat. One man arrived with a mason jar full of lots of silver and not many pennies and emptied it into my already very heavy bucket. That was a load I was very happy to carry.
We got to walk around and smile at generous strangers and think about how little ones around the world would come home to their families because of the work of Shaohannah's Hope. We got to spend time with Nick and Phil who sacrifice tremendously following SCC around the country to coordinate the "Change for Orphans" portion of the concerts.
Two highlights -
1. The goal was to raise $4,000. That was surpassed - we collected over $5,100 - and people were still giving as they were walking out the door. I was in awe. We obviously have a heart for orphans and to see others share that passion was...I don't think I have words for it...I was deeply touched as I thought about all the little faces waiting...
2. A young family was invited by Shaohannah's Hope to attend the concert. They are in the process of adopting two little girls from Ethiopia and SCC announced that they were the recipients of a $4,000 grant. To see them standing on the stage, holding pictures of their girls, thanking us all profusely through tears...that was just cool.
You can donate to Shaohannah's Hope online.
You can coordinate your own Change for Orphans fundraiser.
You can run/walk to raise money for orphans by partnering with RunningHope.org
You can pray for orphans.
You can become a foster parent.
You can adopt internationally.
You can make a difference in the life of a child. Really. You can.

Hank is on a roll
Hank and I were talking this morning while I was getting dressed. I put on some deodorant and he asked me why grownups use "odorant."
I told him its because grownups get stinky if they don't.
"Stinky armpits??"
"Well yes, we get stinky armpits without deodorant"
Then it began...
Will waspses (if you say it right, you have to say it with 2-3 syllables drawing out the z sound at the end) come and sting you if you're stinky?
What about baby waspses? Do they sting stinky people?
Do they like armpits?
How do they sting if they're just babies?
Can they fly?
Where do they live?
How do they build their houses?
Do they use spit?
And then he got bored and left. From deodorant to baby wasp spit in less than a minute....no wonder I'm so tired all the time!

Look who's a big 2 year old

We celebrated Aunt Honey's 29th birthday along with Shane and Jennifer who turned 2. It was so cute watching the littles blow out their candles. Shane learned long ago to hold up his hand - like "stop" - and say "ot!" for hot. So he kept holding up his hand, blocking his way to blow out the candle, and saying "ot!" really loudly. Silly kid.He has such a zest for life. He approaches everything from getting dressed to playing with a head first, full speed ahead attitude, usually laughing hysterically.
His joy is infectious as he shouts "Hi!" and then "Bye!" to passersby in the grocery store, parking lot, library (shhh!), and even driving down the road (I don't think he realizes they can't hear him.).
He reminds me of my grandpa, he knows no strangers. Every person is a possibility for an exciting conversation (well, Shane is still learning to talk but he enjoys babbling with people at length). He is such a joy and we can't imagine how boring our lives would be without our littlest guy. Happy birthday butterbuns! We love you! (smooch!)
A funny by Hank
Hank has a sinus infection and his maxillary sinuses are blocked. Actually, he's had it for some time, but I didn't take him to the dr until yesterday because he hasn't had a fever or complained about pain, etc.
Apparently sinus infections can cause you to hum in your sleep?? Who knew? Anyhoo, Hank sounds like a hump back whale when he sleeps. It annoys Bill like crazy. I think its cute so I've been telling him he's my little hump back whale and that he sleeps like a whale.
The medicine the dr prescribed for the infection tastes "awful!" "yucky!" and "gross!" so he's not exactly gulping it down with joy.
I held the medicine cup out to him this morning. He put his hands up in protest, "but mom I didn't sleep like a whale last night!" So much for sleeping like a log. :)
