Tapestry of Grace Year 2 Medieval Feast

Princess Buttercup and the Blue Knight

His helmet is a foil covered milk carton. Desperate times call for desperate measures!

I am amazed, truly

Knight's boots/shoe covers
Poor Jake is wearing a muffin hat. Apparently poofy is good, very poofy is very good. I'm saving this photo for future blackmail opportunities. :)

I had just told Hank to make sure his eyes were open for the picture. I think he did great.

No dragons allowed, baybee!

I can not sew. Not even a little bit.

We're doing Tapestry of Grace this year for school and it is broken into 4 units. At the end of each unit there's a suggested celebration that ties in with what you just studied. We just finished medieval history so our co-op is having a medieval feast tomorrow night.

Costumes are required. Did I mention I can't sew.

Stitch Witchery saved my bacon. I got out my trusty iron and about 400 yards of stitch witchery. My mother in law gave me tons of material and I went to work. It took me a few weeks of working on them in my spare time (ha ha), but I did it. By the time I got to Jake's costume, I was a little worn out. Big clothes are harder to make than little ones so he ended up with just a tunic and a hat.

We also painted and be-jeweled bowls and goblets. I'll get pictures of those tomorrow night. They were fun to make. I don't think I'll raise my hand for any more sewing in the near future. It was a frustrating and very steep learning curve. I don't want to toot my own horn, but I am really pleased with how the costumes turned out, and I'm really glad they're done.

I'll post pictures of the feast ina couple of days.

Thanksgiving at Dee Dee's

The kids and I stayed at Dee Dee's for a few extra days while Bill worked on our well. We must have had a good time because we all gained about 5 pounds each!

Thankfulness headbands

Last week in Ella's pre-K class we made little Indian headbands with the kids and wrote on each feather something they were thankful for. Lester ate Ella's so I decided to do them here at home with my 3 little ones.

Ella and Hank thought of things they thought Shane would be thankful for which was cute enough in itself.
Our hope is that the kids will begin to realize just how blessed they are and thus cultivate a heart of gratitude and contentment. Ella already amazes us at how she consistently remembers to pray for others, be it friends who are sick or her siblings.

The Nap

Hopefully, it wasn't my teaching that put her to sleep.

Her ability to sleep anywhere, anytime continues to amaze us.

A new kind of football

Ella's friends A and C gave her a selection of princesses for her birthday. Tonight they played football against Max Steele (in his undies no less). It was Cowboys vs. the Alligators. It was a tie since neither team woudl admit defeat.

I *love* listening to the two of them play! They are so creative. It's interesting too how the "girl characters" are usually mommies taking care of their babies and the "boy characters" are blasting people to smithereens. My own little social experiment happening in my kitchen. lol!

Birthday shopping

Car Grammy and Car Grampy sent money for Ella's birthday. We went shopping. It was fun. :)
Thank you both!

Cute kid

We're working on the wardrobe...

Hair

Ella likes to do my hair. One day she cut it. Thankfully, very!, I had it wadded up in the back so she cut a bit from here and there and not a big chunk from one spot.

Ella went to a ballerina party so Hank got to spend a weekend with his Dee. She and Uncle Mark took him to the Baltimore Aquarium where he discovered a great love for dolphins. His bedtime friends are now Racecar Monkey and Dolphin. Never, never let either be lost under the bed or wadded in covers. There will be no sleeping until both are found.

International Day of Prayer is this Sunday, 11/11

This Sunday is the International Day of Prayer.
Take a moment to read the link below and pray for those around the world who are imprisoned for their faith.

Read here

They also have activity sheets for children with memory verses and facts about several countries.

Perhaps you would consider regularly praying for a particular prisoner and even writing letters of encouragement (VOM has a handy translation tool so you just print and mail the letter).
